笠木次郎吉　明治時代の伝説的画家

略歴
青年期に単身横浜に移り住み五姓田芳柳らの影響を受け画技を磨き、一時欧米に
留学したと伝えられる。また横浜で活動をしていた事業で作品のほとんどが海外に流失し、
柳行李いっぱいに保管していた下絵（デッサン）も関東大震災と空襲により消失した。

子孫に残されたものは、古ぼけた顔写真と一点の下絵のみであったが、
高野光正氏という絵画コレクターが笠木次郎吉の作品を約20年に亘って
欧米より収集していたことが判明した。

平成15年7月より16年2月には、静岡県立美術館、府中美術館、長野信濃美術館、
岡山県立美術館に開催された展示会「もうひとつの明治美術」に高野氏所蔵の笠木次郎吉
の作品3点が出品されて大きな反響を得る。

JIROKICHI KASAGI -Another Legendary Art of Meiji-

Born in 1870, Die in 1923. He was born in Kanazawa, Ishikawa-ken and
he is stepfather of Kazuko Kasagi who is the owner of Gallery Kasagi.
In his young adulthood, he was inspired with Horyu Goseda which was

famous artist and he moved to Yokohama alone by himself to train his art skill.

He is said that he went to study overseas to Europe.
Most of his artworks in Yokohama were gone and sold to Overseas.

In addition, his art was also destroyed by the Kanto Earthquake and air raid.

The only art that was left for the offspring were only an old photograph of Jirokichi and one sketch.

Though an art collector named "Mitsumasa Takano" collected his art in Europe for more than 20 years.

Through Jun 2003 to Feb 2004, Exhibition called "Another Meiji Art" was held in

Shizuoka Prefectural Museum of Art, Fuchu Museum of Art, Nagano Shinano Museum of

Art and Okayama Prefectural Museum of Art. Jirokichi's 3 art were shown and

received a great response from the audience.
